Historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Castleford

Castleford TigersCastleford is a town that is proud of it’s rich heritage which dates back to Roman times.

It is built upon the site of a Roman army settlement named Legioleum.

Castleford Heritage Trust is made up of volunteers from the community working hard to promote and inform both young and old about our precious history.  Dating from the roman era, to our industrial background.

Castleford  has several community champions working together to improve the town as part of a unique program  of regeneration  which is widely known as ‘The Castleford Project’.

The building of the  new £4m footbridge over the River Aire and regeneration of other areas around the town is testament to the passion that these champions and Wakefield Council possess in helping to breathe new life into Castleford.
